Join us to relax and jam for a while! We’ll be playing a variety of songs, the majority of songs are intermediate level. I've set up a Dropbox file with 2 additional sub-files containing a variety of songs, some more challenging than others. Please send me your email address so I can send you the invite to the Dropbox files. I encourage you to listen to the songs you aren't familiar with on YouTube or any number of phone/iPad apps.
We meet every Wednesday from 2-4 pm at Chula Vista Recreation Center 1011 Rio Grande Avenue in The Villages. (phone # 352-753-0002). Please sure to bring your Villages I.D. All participants are asked to complete and sign an annual Villages Recreation Waiver upon joining the group. These forms are available at the Rec center check-in.

There are also SO many You Tube videos out there with instructional info and song lyrics & chords. If you find a song that you like and want to share with the group, just send me an email with the info and we'll check it out at the next group!
Please feel free to send an email if you have any questions or concerns. Remember, this group is intended to be casual & fun. Hopefully we can all learn from each other and with practice can increase our skill levels, all while enjoying the camaraderie that is found amongst ukulele players.

Aloha!! It seems like summer arrived a month early here in Florida! I can picture sitting under a palm tree on a beautiful beach playing ukulele…Regular group members are aware of my plans to relocate out-of-state in July to live closer to my family. I will, therefore, be running Le’ale’a this week and next week and if there are no takers for the ”leader’s position,“ then Le’ale’a will unfortunately be discontinued. It has been a very worthwhile venture for me to have started this group. I do so appreciate everyone’s tolerance of the schedule changes that started just a week after the group’s inception. From an emergency family health problem up north that required my immediate help, then my significant other’s health decline in September and his passing in November on Thanksgiving Day, and an additional family crisis in SC this spring, well, the hits have just kept coming. But, the main thing I will always take with me is that we all had very relaxed and fun times getting together on Wednesday afternoons to play lots of different songs and enjoy each other’s company. I hope you all will do the same!! I hope to join up with other ukers at my new location in or around the Beaufort, SC area and will keep you all posted on whatever comes about. Mahalo to all who helped keep Le’ale’a going since April 26th, 2023!!❤️🎶

The members who've been coming to group have really enjoyed the instructional videos we've watched. We've used Chordify and YouTube for quite a few songs and it's fun learning in this way. It is worth the cost for me to pay for Chordify; they have a lot of songs to pick from and think it has helped get the song rhythms down better as well as learning some new chords and how best to change from difficult chords to easier chords and visa versa. Remember, just because a chord chart says to play a chord a certain way does not always mean you HAVE to use that particular finger position in order for the chord to sound right. You may find it easier to transition from one chord to another by using a different positioning that works for you. I certainly am NOT going to say "You can't play that chord that way!" Whatever works for you is the name of the game!!
***For JUNE 5th**
-Here’s a fun song: a classic that probably everyone over 60 remembers well: “Memphis Tennessee “ was first done by Chuck Berry in 1959 and basically started a rock n’ roll revolution as many claimed. The late Lonny Mack, a great & famous guitarist, released the song in 1963 as an instrumental at a slightly faster pace. Johnny Rivers also recorded it in 1964. There are several versions on Chordify; the Chuck Berry version is in the key of Eb and the Johnny Rivers version is in the key of B7. However, there are two versions in Le’ale’a Main file in the key of D7 & key of G. Practice the rhythm to get that rock n’ roll groove going!!
-We all know who the Rolling Stones are, right? One of their early hit songs was “As Tears Go By”, which was first recorded by Marianne Faithfull in 1964 and was released the following year by the Stones. It’s a sad song , obviously about love that was lost and not difficult to play. It’s in the key of G and also the key of C on Chordify and is in Le’ale’a Main file. In the key of G.

***And of course, as my hero, Jake Shimabukuro, the amazing Hawaiian ukulele master says: "PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!!" Even 10 minutes a day will make a big difference as time goes on.***
***JUST A REMINDER:***
If anyone wants to bring your iPads to group, in the event there is a problem with the projector or if you prefer to read from your own device , please feel free to do so. Don't forget to log in to the Villages WiFi if you do use your own device. A few people have asked about that. Whatever works for you is ok by me!
** NEW GROUP ATTENDEES:** If you have a song to suggest, kindly send the song info to the Le'ale'a email ahead of time.
